With the rate of our using of palm oil as it is, there with be no more orangatangs in 2 years time. Have you ever thought about that before? I believe we must make a change and stop using PALM OIL! Listen and you will find out why we shouldn’t use palm oil, what orangutans are what they do, and how some brands say that their products have vegetable oil instead of palm oil.
Orangatangs are gentle and amazing animals. There used to be 5000 orangatangs left in the world but because we use palm oil, these amazing animals are endangered and will become extinct. Palm oil is made from trees.
When the trees are harvested the orangatangs food source and haitat is removed. They are then often killed by hunters because they can not hide in the jungle behind the trees.
Orangatangs can’t speak for themselves, but if they could, they would say that most of New Zealand and America’s snack foods are made with palm oil. That is destroying approximately 6000 orangatang homes’ each year.
If you do the math, that means if we keep going on using palm oil like we are now, This cold be our last year with the orangutangs. Isn’t that terrible?
So why should we use palm oil? After all, why do we even need it? For instance, palm oil is not actually that good for you, if you listen to environmentalists and people from animal-rights companies along with nutrition and health experts, they'll tell you it's something close to poison.
Besides that, you would be taking a big risk just buying one product with palm oil in it - you could be destroying another orangatang and it’s family’s home - the jungle. As palm oil is one of the worlds most popular vegetable oils, we have to admit that this isn’t just some small scale problen to be dealt with, it is a huge problem.
But we can stop it. By telling brands that use palm oil, to quit it. Sometimes brands are so interested in selling their foods, that they sometimes forget to put palm oil on the back of the product they are selling.
Palm oil is a common ingreidient of magarines, biscuits, breads, breakfast cereals, instant noodles, shampoos, lipsticks, candles, detergents, chocolates, ice cream, peanut butter, and chocolate spreads such as nutella!
Quite often companies don’t actually mention palm oil on their ingredient list but it’s still there. Palm oil can be listed as palm oil kernal, palmate, oil palm plant, hydrated palm glycirides, and so much more.
So I have informed you of how palm oil is badly affecting a particular animal species and that many processed food products contain palm oil as an ingredient.
Now it is your turn to help do something about it. If all of us in room 32 go home and help our families to avoid buying foods with palm oil in them, that will be a good start.
It would be even better if you told your grandparents, your cousins and your friends about palm oil destroying the orangatangs habitat and help them to stop buying food containing palm oil. With a bit of effort we will help save these beautiful creatures
